UPDATE: Large fire in downtown Eveleth
Update: According to the Northland Fire Wire, 18 Iron Range fire departments helped to combat the blaze. Officials say that one building is a total loss with a part of it torn down by an excavator for safety. Another building, Johnny D’s bar, has extensive damages. No injuries have been reported. However, the American Red Cross says they are assisting around a dozen people who are currently displaced. The Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

At around 5:35 am, a fire was reported in an apartment building in the 300 block of Grant Avenue in downtown Eveleth. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the upper floor of the back of the building, next to Johnny D’s bar.
As of 10:30 am Sunday morning, multiple Iron Range fire departments were still battling the blaze. According to Northland FireWire, the fire is using so much water that more is being transported to the scene.
Eveleth, Fayal, Mountain Iron, Gilbert, Virginia, Clinton, Lakeland, Colvin, Cook, Palo, Aurora, and Biwabik fire departments are all working on putting out this fire. The Eveleth Ambulance Service is providing medical standby at the scene.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Updates will be provided once more details are known.
