The Kiwanis Club of Duluth hosted their 2023 Duluth Police Officer and Firefighter of the year award ceremony on Wednesday afternoon. The awards are given to a new recipient each year who best exemplifies outstanding dedication in their respective departments. The recipients are voted on by a pool of their peers who judge based on factors such as their values, character, and work ethic while on duty.

This year’s police officer of the year award was given to Officer Jim Forsyth. “The nominations happen from the officers that that I work with every day,” said Forsyth. “So yeah, it feels really special to be recognized by fellow officers that I work with every day.”

Duluth Fire Department’s firefighter of the year award was given to Josh Bade, who was presented the award by Duluth Fire Chief, Shawn Krizaj.
