Event to honor and remember the lives lost 30 years ago during plane crash in Hibbing
Friday will mark the 30th anniversary of a plane crash in Hibbing that claimed 18 lives.
Steve Breitbarth, a retired pastor and current member of the St. Louis County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, remembers getting the call that night.
“I went to the Catholic church, because that’s where families were meeting. They couldn’t all fit at the hospital,” he recalled.
It was a terrible time.
Now, 30 years later, he and the other chaplains are putting on an event called “A Time for Reflection” at the airport in Hibbing.
“The event is intended for the community, especially family and friends of of those that lost their lives in that plane crash,” he said. “My intention is to provide support, and help heal old wounds.”
“A Time for Reflection” is coming up on Sunday at 3pm at the Range Regional Airport. It is free and open to the public.
