Chabad of Duluth held a celebration of Chanukah at the Miller Hill Mall. The event included donuts, gifts, festive music, a giant menorah lighting and more.

“It’s an amazing feeling that there’s a community here. Sometimes we don’t we don’t see each other on a daily or weekly or even monthly basis always,” said Chabad of Duluth Rabbi Mendy Ross. “But when we come together at these special times, we remember that we’re not alone, that we’re all here together. We have similar beliefs and we share a tradition that’s really rich, and to be able to celebrate together is an amazing thing.”

Chanukah is celebrated by the Jewish community beginning the night of December 7th through December 15th to maintain the ideals of Judaism and is commemorated by the lighting of candles on each day of the festival.

“I think that the message of darkness is to bring light,” said Ross. “If we’re confronted with darkness, our response has to be to put more light, which means to be more better people, to be more giving people and to be more proudly Jewish in our personal lives. And like the nature of light is that it automatically shines to others. There’s not much do you really have to do to put it out there? If you are yourselves, if you are a light, you will shine to others.”
