The Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank helps to serve community members in a number of ways. Whether it’s through community partnerships, their weekly food shelf or BackPack program, Second Harvest helps Northlanders with food insecurity.

The non-profit helps to feed more than 40,000 people in our area and provides around 6-million meals. This year is the 20th annual Have a Heart, Help a Neighbor campaign, which has created an opportunity for Northlanders to give back.

Non-profits also benefit our community in other ways. Executive Director of Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, Shaye Morris, says that they also help support the economy. “We employ people and we pay employment taxes. All those things really add value to a community. We don’t hear a lot about economic value in terms of non-profits, but they really do add value and benefit to communities like Duluth and throughout the region.” Second Harvest also helps with food assistance.

There are also volunteer opportunities available for anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer.
