Keep the Wreath Green is all about fire prevention this holiday season

Keep the wreath green for fire safety

The town of Superior Fire Department will change one green light to red when there is a fire.

The holidays are here, and fire prevention can fall lower on your priority list.

That’s why the Town of Superior Fire Department has their Keep the Wreath Green program.

On their fire hall off Highway 35, they have a large wreath with green bulbs on it. Every time there is a house fire in Douglas County, they’ll change one bulb to red.

Chief Darryl Fiegle shared, “We noticed fire departments in southern Wisconsin were doing this. And we thought it was a great idea to help bring fire safety to the forefront during the holiday season. It’s about staying vigilant.”

Some fire prevention tips:

  1. Make sure you have working smoke alarms.
  2. Don’t overload your electrical outlets.
  3. Keep an eye on your cooking.
  4. Don’t burn wrapping paper, since it can start your chimney on fire.
  5. Close your bedroom doors, to prevent heat and smoke from spreading.

Also, they have their annual food drive coming up next Saturday. See below for details:
