The UWS men’s and women’s hockey teams had different fates on Saturday, as the men’s team beat Northland College 3-1, and the women’s team fell to St. Olaf, 4-3.

On the men’s side, the win comes as the third time the Yellowjackets have beat Northland College in the last two weeks, and the second straight win for the Jackets after losing their first four games of the season.

The Yellowjackets didn’t get the scoring started until the second period, when Jordan Guiney found the back of the net seven minutes into the period. Six minutes later, Tyler Ryder scored a second goal for the Yellowjackets.

After Northland College cut the deficit to 2-1, C.J. Walker put the game away, finding the back of the net with just 20 seconds left in the game.

For the women, three third period goals from St. Olaf was the kiss of death, as the Yellowjackets quickly saw their lead deteriorate.

Cora Coz scored the first goal of the game for UWS in the first period, but no one else would reach the back of the net until the first minute of the second period, when Emma Booth found twine.

Kaylin Garner then scored 11 minutes after Booth for a 3-1 advantage, and it looked like the Yellowjackets would coast to a victory, but they allowed the game winner with just three minutes left in the game.

The men’s team will take a few weeks off and regroup to play Dubuque on December 29th, while the women’s team will face the College of Saint Scholastica on December 12th.
