Hermantown boy’s hockey gets revenge against Mahtomedi
December 16th, 2023 was a day that Hermantown boy’s hockey had circled on their calendar ever since Mahtomedi knocked them out in the Class A semifinals last season.
On Saturday, the Hawks got their revenge, as they beat Mahtomedi 5-1.
Patrick Egan of Mahtomedi scored as the first period buzzer went off, putting the Zephyrs up 1-0.
Hermantown came out firing in the second period though, as Joshua Kauppinen scored just 15 seconds into the second period to tie things up at 1-1.
25 seconds later, River Freeman scored to go ahead, and the Hawks wouldn’t look back. Two more goals, one from Alexander Francisco and another from Henry Peterson has the Hawks up 4-1 at the end of the second period.
In the third, Charlie Marchand scored the fifth goal of the game, cementing the Hawks win.
Hermantown takes on Duluth Denfeld on Tuesday.
