A cold front passing last night brought slippery roads for our Monday morning commute, blustery northwest winds, and a quick shot of chilly air before we enter another prolonged stretch of above average temperatures. Most areas stayed under an inch from the Sunday night snow, but it was enough for slick travel. Additional snow today will mostly focus along the South Shore snowbelt. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Iron Co. and Gogebic Co. until 3 pm where 1-3” and locally higher amounts are expected. Blowing snow and times of poor visibility are also expected.

Northwest winds are the strongest early this morning, sustained around 20 mph and leading to wind chills in single digits below and above zero. Winds gradually improve this evening and eventually shift out of the southwest to start our warming trend on Tuesday. Highs today stay in mid-teens to low 20s. Temps will quickly fall into single digits and teens tonight with minimal cloud cover, then highs return to the 30s tomorrow under mostly cloudy skies.

Warm and rather dry weather takes us through the rest of the week with a brown Christmas on track. Highs will be consistently above freezing and even overnight lows trend to stay in the mid-30s by the weekend. There is a system expected to bring precipitation Sunday, Monday, and into Tuesday. As of this morning, rain looks dominant Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, then snow would mix in and take over for what would linger on December 26th. We’ll continue to monitor precipitation type and potential travel impacts over this period.
