Minnesota Court of Appeals affirms air permit for NewRange Copper Nickel

Good news for NewRange Copper Nickel as we approach the end of 2023.
The Minnesota Court of Appeals has upheld their air permit, which was issued by the MPCA in 2019.
NewRange sent a statement, that said they are pleased with the Court’s decision.
MiningMinnesota sent a statement as well, which reads, ” This is an important conclusion that reaffirms Minnesota’s legitimate, well-structured permitting process. It’s a key decision at an important time for Minnesota and America’s efforts to transform our energy economy.
At the recent COP28 Summit, the United States, along with more than 100 other countries, made a commitment to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. These commitments around the globe will require a massive build-out of infrastructure wholly dependent upon mineral resources.
The U.S. and Minnesota have an obligation to responsibly and domestically source minerals to meet their own needs. NewRange Copper Nickel holds the potential to be a significant contributor to our nation’s clean energy future.”
Environmental groups had called the permit inadequate, and this ruling disappointing.
NewRange is proposing to build a copper nickel mine and process the metals at the former LTV site in Hoyt Lakes.
