Prep Hockey: Hermantown & Duluth Denfeld tie, Proctor and Grand Rapids/Greenway cruise to wins
On Tuesday, Hermantown boy’s hockey and Duluth Denfeld tied 2-2 in overtime, while Proctor boy’s hockey cruised to a 6-0 win over Greenway and Grand Rapids/Greenway beat the Duluth Northern Stars, 6-2.
The Hermantown boy’s hockey team scored a goal in the first two periods, coming from Jack Slattengren in the first period for his first varsity goal, and in the second Bradford Skytta netted his own to extend the Hawks lead to 2-0.
Minutes later in the second, Brady Wick cut the deficit in half for Denfeld, and in the third, Cory Backstrom knotted things up at 2. Neither team would score in overtime.
Hermantown will look for a win against Rosemount on Friday, and the Hunters will battle Irondale on December 27th. This is the first time the Hawks have not beaten the Hunters since 2014 when they tied 4-4 in OT. Denfeld’s last win over Hermantown came Dec. 20, 2012 when they won 5-4.
For Proctor, there was no scoring in the first period, but eventually, the Rails would start peppering the net, scoring six goals, their second time doing so this season.
The Rails take on Brookfield on December 27th.
For Grand Rapids/Greenway, they came out firing, scoring six goals against the Northern Stars.
The Lightning will look to build on that momentum against Edina on December 26th, while the Northern Stars look ahead to Elk River on Thursday.
