Three men rescued after breaking through ice on Upper Red Lake
Three men were rescued after breaking through the ice on Upper Red Lake Thursday evening.
The men were returning from fishing shortly before 8:00 p.m. when their ATV and trailer broke through.
Two of the men fell into the water but were able to get back on top of the ice.
Emergency responders were able to get the men back to shore and no injuries were reported.
“The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Kelliher Fire and Rescue, Blackduck Police Department, Blackduck Ambulance and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers,” explained Beltrami County Sheriff Jason Riggs who cautioned people from getting on the ice this weekend. “The weather forecast for the holiday weekend calls for chances of rain with temperatures remaining above freezing, even in the overnight. Ice conditions will continue to deteriorate. Use extreme caution if you venture on area lakes and check the ice thickness frequently”
