As many of us head back to work and school following the holidays, the weather is taking it easy on us. Our Tuesday starts off with cloudy skies and temps mostly in the mid-20s, which are a few degrees above average highs. We top off in low 30s today with skies remaining overcast. The international border saw a few flurries early this morning, and we look back near and north of the Iron Range for light snow this evening and overnight. Accumulation here would be only a dusting. Meanwhile, a passing cold front will direct a breezy north wind and a shot of cold air over Lake Superior, keeping lake effect snow chances for the South Shore snowbelt tonight through tomorrow afternoon. 1-3” are possible locally in northern Iron County and Gogebic County.

Temperatures take a hit behind the cold front. Tonight will still see lows hovering in mid-teens to mid-20s, but we only rise a few degrees on Wednesday with highs in upper teens to mid-20s. Morning clouds will give way to sunshine. Without much cloud cover Wednesday night, temps fall into the single digits across the Northland with the cold spots dipping a few degrees below zero. Highs stay in the 20s on Thursday. The consistently cooler conditions will finally help ice building efforts and allow ski hills to make snow and keep it. Widespread snow chances return Friday night and linger Saturday.
