Updated: Pedestrian walkway of Aerial Lift Bridge closed indefinitely

On Friday, January 5, the City of Duluth announced it was closing down the bay side pedestrian walkway of the Aerial Lift Bridge to the public. City officials cited unsafe conditions and said the walkway would remain closed to the public until further notice.

WDIO checked on the status of the Aerial Lift Bridge on Monday and according to Kelli Latuska, Duluth’s Public Information Officer, the walkway on the bay side will likely remain closed until spring.

The sidewalk on the lakeside of the bridge will remain open, but the city urges caution when traveling the bridge by foot in the winter.

Automobile traffic is not affected by the closure.
