Public informational meeting to discuss Hwy 33 intersection study
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) says there will be a public meeting to discuss two intersections on Highway 33 in Cloquet on Thursday, February 1. The two intersections to be discussed include Carlton Avenue and Cloquet Avenue/Hwy 45. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the Cloquet Public Library, 320 14th St. in Cloquet.
According to MnDOT, this meeting will focus specifically about the Carlton Avenue and Cloquet Avenue intersections and the public will be able to provide feedback. There will be a brief presentation and time to look at intersection layouts and ask questions.
MnDOT has a planned project in 2028 along the Hwy 33 corridor from Big Lake Road/Doddridge Avenue to the St. Louis River bridge.
A public survey will be posted online to gather feedback on the alternatives. For those unable to attend in person, please visit the project website at mndot.gov/d1/projects/hwy-33-cloquet for more information and a link to the survey.
According to MnDOT, the planned 2028 Project Area (see orange area on map above) from Doddridge Ave. to St. Louis River Bridge will improve safety and efficiency of the corridor. They say the signals at Cloquet Ave. and Carlton Ave. are reaching the end of their useful life. The estimated cost of the project is $3.2 million.
