Steeves’ hat trick powers UMD men’s hockey to home victory over Miami
AMSOIL Arena was an electric atmosphere on Friday night, as the UMD men’s hockey team, backed by a Ben Steeves hat trick, beat Miami (Ohio) 6-2.
After a goal just over seven minutes into the first period by Ben Steeves, neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the period, but in the second, the Bulldogs would explode for three goals.
Luke Loheit scored just under thirty seconds in, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. While the RedHawks would cut the deficit to 2-1, UMD would get their lead back and more, as Ben Steeves net his second while Kyle Bettens added one of his own.
In the third, Steeves added his third goal under a minute into action, and Blake Biondi contributed a goal of his own to give UMD a 6-1 lead.
Miami (Ohio) would score once more, but the UMD defense wouldn’t allow any more.
UMD is in search of the weekend sweep Saturday at 7:07 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.
