Prep Boys Hockey: Hermantown soars over CEC, Proctor rallies past Superior
In prep boys hockey on Thursday, Hermantown rolled past Cloquet-Esko-Carlton while Proctor rallied past Superior.
Hermantown defeated Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 6-1 at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in the two programs first meeting as Section 7A foes. CEC dropped down from Section 7AA after the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season.
River Freeman scored the first goal for the Hawks, then Grady Knutson scored the Lumberjacks sole goal to tie it 1-1 late in the first period. Hermantown went on to score five unanswered goals, with Ford Skytta tallying two goals and an assist, to win 6-1.
The Hawks now sit 13-6-2 and visit Moorhead Saturday. CEC sits 10-12 and visits Champlin Park Saturday.
At Wessman Area, Superior dropped their regular season home finale to Proctor 2-1. Brady Haroldson scored first for the Spartans in the first period. Then Nolan Okstad tied it for Proctor in the second, and Breckin Ross scored the game winner for the Rails in the third.
Proctor earned their fourth straight win to sit 16-6. They host Duluth Marshall Tuesday. Superior (7-12-1) visits Sheboygan Friday.
