In the first two games of the Section 7A quarterfinals, #3 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton handled #6 Hibbing/Chisholm 4-2, while the #2 Proctor/Hermantown Mirage’s barrage on net was enough to beat #7 North Shore, 5-1.
In Cloquet, after the Bluejackets struck first, CEC would catch fire, rattling off three goals in a row for CEC before the end of the first period.
CEC moves on to face Proctor/Hermantown, after their 5-1 win.
The Mirage also gave up the first goal of the game, but immediately peppered the net, outshooting North Shore 67-6, however, North Shore’s Harper Powell impressed all game, making acrobatic saves and keeping the Mirage out of the net for the entirety of the first period.
The battle between the two seeded Mirage and three seeded CEC takes place Saturday at St. Lukes Arena at 11 a.m.
On the other side of the bracket, #4 Moose Lake Area edged #5 Rock Ridge 1-0, and they’ll move on to face the #1 seed of the Section 7A tournament, Duluth Marshall on Saturday at 2 p.m.
