UMD men’s & women’s basketball best Southwest Minnesota State
On Friday both the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s and women’s basketball teams picked up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) wins over Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) at Romano Gym.
The No. 22 UMD men held off SMSU 70-62. The Bulldogs’ Drew Blair led the game with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Jack Middleton added 17 points. UMD improves to 19-5 earning their seventh straight win. They next host Sioux Falls Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
The Bulldog women earned a big 72-57 victory over the Mustangs. Five UMD players broke double digits, with Madelyn Granica leading the team tallying 12 points and eight rebounds. Ella Gilbertson added 11 points and 10 rebounds. They improve to 15-7, earning their third straight win, and will host Sioux Falls Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Romano Gym.
For both Bulldog programs these were redemption wins, having both dropped games at SMSU back in December.
