Twin Ports Interfaith Fundraiser raises money for aid in Palestine

Sunday at First Luthren Church, Muslims, Jews, and Christians all gathered for a dinner, informational gallery on the conflict, and a presentation by Mariam El-Khatib. Mariam is a Palestinian-American who was born and raised in Minnesota.

“And so it’s providing very vital humanitarian aid and we are trying to raise 20,000 dollars to support [Palestinian Red Crescent],” says planning committee member Claire Bransky.

Branksy says the situation is serious in Gaza. And mentions that the Palestinian Red Crescent is one of the only humanitarian aid organizations that’s allowed in to the area.

As for the gathering of three different religions to Sunday’s event Executive President of the Twin Ports Islamic Center, John Dahl, says, “Well I think Palestine can feel like a very faraway place and that the suffering there might not be tangible. So the fact that we are here tonight, that we’ve gathered together, that we’ve volunteered our time means that– ‘no our brothers and sisters extend beyond Duluth and Superior.'”
