Spirit Mountain adjusts hours for springtime weather
According to the Executive Director at Spirit Mountain, Ann Glumac, the unseasonably warm weather is causing the ski hill to change their hours starting March 2nd.
“We pay attention to the weather conditions. In the spring, you have warmer temperatures, but you also have longer days and the angle of the sun is different as well. So we really kind of play it by ear,” Glumac said. “We look at the snow conditions on the mountain and make our decisions based on that. So people stay safe.”
Glumac said even though this ski season has been different than most, there will still be opportunities for folks to get out and ski.
“We plan on at this point being open through March, which is our our budget, which our plan is,” Glumac said. “So if it became unsafe, we wouldn’t let people come out here and be exposed to unsafe conditions. But we monitor the snow. And right now we plan on being open until March.”
Spirit Mountain will be closed Tuesdays in March. They are also transitioning to their spring hours opening at 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. They will also be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
“We always change to spring hours. It’s a tradition in the industry and we’re doing it a little bit earlier this year,” Glumac said. “But we wanted to give people lots of notice so they could plan. Despite what Mother Nature didn’t provide, we’ve provided a great winter experience at Spirit this year.”
