Brandon Weatherz: Quiet and comfortable March weekend
Yesterday’s cold front has knocked temps down a peg today, but we’ll gradually trend warmer over the weekend with widespread 50s returning by Monday. Keeping in mind Duluth’s normal high of 33° and low of 15°, even this one cooler day is a few degrees above average. Our Friday starts off with temps in mid-teens to mid-20s, then highs range from near 30 for International Falls to near 40 for Hayward with 37 in the Twin Ports. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny.
Dry weather is expected across the region through the weekend with the only exception being a brief period of lake effect snow chances for the South Shore overnight into Saturday morning, but any snow accumulation would remain localized and light, under an inch.
Temps fall back into teens to low 20s tonight under mostly clear skies apart from the South Shore. Saturday then sees us above freezing across the Northland with mid-30s to low 40s accompanied by sunshine and a breezy north wind. We’re back in the teens once more Saturday night, then Sunday truly starts the warming trend with upper 30s to upper 40s looking from northeast to southwest across the Northland under sunny skies.
We’ll be in 50s on Monday with cooler conditions immediately near the shorelines of Lake Superior. By Tuesday, low 60s are possible along and south of a line from Moose Lake to Ashland. We have to look as far out as Thursday for any potential for precipitation, and even that round currently has a better chance south of Duluth in northwest Wisconsin.
