Solon Springs boy’s basketball headed to state for first time in program history
It’s been a long time coming for Solon Springs boy’s basketball, as after over 80 years of existence as a school, the Eagles are off to the state tournament for the first time.
The Eagles finished their season with a 27-2 record, and have beaten bigger schools all year, as there are only 81 students enrolled in the High School.
However, despite their impressive record and for a that was never ranked lower than second, Solon Springs was given the four seed in the tournament.
For the Eagles, they’re not phased at all; in fact, they almost like being doubted.
“Yeah, there’s more fuel to the fire, so we’ll get down there and get our anger out on the court,” said Isaiah Kastern, a senior forward who set the all time points record at Solon Springs earlier this year.
“These guys will compete in an empty gym. They’ll compete on a mountain top. It doesn’t matter where we are. We’re going to go out and try to stay focused on what we need to do to win a basketball game, no matter where it is, or who it’s against,” shared Marcus Besonen, the Eagles head coach.
The Eagles look to shock the world when they take on the 1 seed, Columbus Catholic, in the semifinals this Friday.
