Lake Superior College hosts celebration for International Women’s Day
On Monday, March 18th, Lake Superior College hosted a late celebration of International Women’s Day on campus. The school invited locally elected women who they say are making a difference in the community.
St. Louis County Commissioner Annie Harala, Duluth City Councilor Azrin Awal, and Stephanie Williams from the 709 school board each spent time speaking with students in order to create a stronger connection within the community.
“It is hard to look right now at national politics and feel like you can relate to it or that they care about you, and so having some local elected officials who really do care about the things that are important to us in this community is important. I think it’s also important for our young people to find people that they can connect with, with values, and even the neighborhoods they live in and things like that, and so that they get out and vote.”
Sarah Lyons, Executive Diversity Officer, Lake Superior College
The presentations worked to highlight the work each official is doing in order to create a welcoming and inclusive community for all.
