Our Wednesday is cool and blustery with subzero wind chills at the bus stop this morning. Temps start out in single digits and teens, then highs stay in upper teens to mid-20s today under mostly sunny skies. Clouds may be stubborn along the South Shore where occasional snow showers are possible into the afternoon. Temps fall back in single digits to teens tonight with skies becoming mostly cloudy.

Thursday is quiet with mid-20s to mid-30s looking from north to south across the Northland under a mix of clouds and sun. A round of snow will sweep the Northland from the west Thursday evening and exit to the east through the morning Friday bringing light accumulation for the Friday morning commute. The Twin Ports and U.S. Hwy 2 remain on the northern edge of 1-3” potential that fills out east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

A stronger system will bring the potential for widespread accumulation and more substantial travel impacts beginning Sunday. Periods of snow, possibly heavy, may continue through Tuesday. Rain could mix in at times, particularly in northwest Wisconsin. Winds will also be a contender, reducing visibility and allowing Lake Superior to enhance snowfall for the North Shore and Head of Lake Superior, including in the Twin Ports.

Widespread potential for at least 6” is looking likely with greater than 12” expected for the Twin Ports, North Shore, and parts of north Central Minnesota. Accumulation potential is subject to change as the track of the system and precipitation types shift in the coming days.
