Duluth man charged with sexual assault for skywalk incident

Adrian Greene Sr., 71 of Duluth, has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman in the skywalk walking towards the DECC.

Greene has been charged with one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 1st Degree, one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 2nd Degree, and one of count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 3rd Degree.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim reported that they approached the suspect, Greene, outside of RT Quinlan’s Bar on March 10, 2024 and asked him for money. The complaint states that Greene was already known to the victim. Greene said he could get money from the the ATM at the Duluth Transportation center and the victim agreed and said she would pay him back.

Once at the ATM, the criminal complaint states that the suspect threatened the victim, and make remarks like “no matter what if you don’t come with me, I will shoot your fiancé.”

The complaint then continues that the suspect walked the victim into a corner of the skywalk and began to sexually assault her. The victim repeatedly told the suspect to stop. The victim was able to retrieve their phone and call her fiancé and whisper “911” when other people came towards herself and the suspect in the skywalk.

After, the complaint states that the victim and suspect returned to the elevator where the suspect gave the victim $9 in cash. The victim then returned to RT Quinlan’s where she called the police. Police were dispatched around 1:16 p.m. Greene was taken into custody around 2:36 p.m. Greene denied touching the victim.

Since the alleged assault, Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert put out the following statement regarding skywalk and downtown safety:

“A clean and safe downtown is the canvas on which a thriving downtown is created. Our public safety efforts have been a top priority since my first day in office,” says Mayor Reinert. “We will enforce our community norms.”

The Duluth Police Department says they have taken the following measures on safety downtown:

Bolstering efforts within the CORE, SURT, and CE-POP unit teams to allow its members to focus on safety issues more specific to the downtown population while better connecting those facing social disorder issues with the resources and services they need.

Increasing foot patrols in the downtown Skywalk system and on downtown streets.

Enforcing individuals entering roadways to solicit contributions from passing motorists.

Working with city administration and the city attorney’s office to identify additional safety measures and gaps in our municipal code that might further assist in addressing the social disorder issues that exist in downtown Duluth.
