Justin Liles: A couple rounds of snow heading our way

March 20th: Couple chances of snow heading our way

Couple chances of snow heading our way

Another chilly night is likely across the region along with increasing clouds. The good news is we won’t be as cold Thursday morning as we were Wednesday morning. A clipper system will bring accumulating light snow chances to portions of the Northland, with the highest accumulations south of US Highway 2 on Thursday through Thursday night where chances for greater than 2 inches of snow are 40 to 70 percent. This snow could lead to slick roadways during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. A winter weather advisory as been issued until 10am Friday has bee issued for these areas.

We will get a break between snow events Friday night and Saturday. On Sunday, a large low emerges out of the Colorado Rockies and takes aim in the upper Midwest. Significant snow is likely from Sunday-Tuesday. Many areas could see well over a foot of snow. Winds will be gusty too and blow the snow around reducing visibilities and deteriorate travel conditions. The worst of the storm still looks to be late Sunday into Monday. The challenge with this is determining how much warm air and rain will advance northward. The Twin Ports may see a transition from snow to rain and freezing rain Monday afternoon. Snow will return behind this freezing rain Monday night. Tuesday mornings commute looks slick too.
