Simple ways to snack smart
Snacking smart comes down to choices. Gwenn Smith, a field staff member for Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) says there are always healthy options available.
“We all like to have something that’s super convenient and available. So always a veggie tray or a fruit platter, those types of things. Peanuts, nuts are always a good choice,” she said.
Smith also says drinking water is key.
“And if you choose to drink alcohol, after each alcoholic drink, have a drink of water so you keep your body hydrated,” she said. “And there are also lower calorie items that are available in alcoholic beverages.”
Another way to work on weight loss and living healthy is to prioritize movement.
“Even during the basketball game, if you can jump up when your favorite team scores or commiserate when they don’t score. Just moving a little bit, even moving during the commercials is helpful,” Smith said. “As long as you don’t get up to go to the refrigerator.”
She says snacking isn’t a no-no as long as the snacks are nutritious, especially because some people can lose weight by eating 5-6 times per day.
