Sometimes patience is required for magic to happen.

That might be how Tanner Hermes would describe the shot he took that topped Destination Duluth’s posts last week.

He captured the crescent moon rising as the McCarthy sailed by beneath it.

Hermes said he’d been up all night photographing the Milky Way and almost called it a night but decided to stick around to see the moon rise. When he saw the McCarthy approaching, he knew it was a rare opportunity.

“I frantically began firing off as many shots as I could, stopping only to ensure that my settings were appropriate before the perfect lineup the two. After it passed by, I just sat there laughing out loud to myself as I didn’t know what other emotion to express!” Hermes told Destination Duluth.
