Brandon Weatherz: Cool and gusty end to the week
We’re on the backside of a cold front today, leading to cooler air moving into the region on a gusty west wind. Highs range from mid-40s to mid-50s with a mix of clouds and sun. We look near and north of the Iron Range for sporadic rain showers this afternoon and snow showers tonight and tomorrow. Less than an inch of snow is expected north of Duluth, and any snow that sticks should be mostly on grassy surfaces. Snow bursts may bring moments of heavier snowfall rates that will reduce visibility on Friday. The South Shore snowbelt may see under an inch Friday night, then we’ll be dry the rest of the weekend.
Tonight will see lows into upper 20s to low 30s, then highs stay only in mid-30s to low 40s on Friday. We’re back below freezing Friday night. Saturday sees highs in mid to upper 40s, then widespread 50s are back on Sunday. Dry air and breezy winds will bring a return of near critical fire weather this weekend. The next chance for rain and possibly wintry mix would be Monday afternoon and overnight, and it doesn’t look too promising in terms of accumulation.
