Building evacuated in Superior after partial collapse and gas leak
The Superior Fire Department responded to the scene of a partial building collapse and gas leak at 210 37th Avenue East in Superior on Thursday afternoon. Authorities evacuated the building and adjacent daycare center after 2 p.m.
As of 5 p.m., gas has been shut off and fire crews have ventilated the building. The daycare center next door has also been reoccupied.
According to Superior Battalion Chief Joe Tribbey, crews did a primary search of the building when the incident was reported, locating two people. They were brought to safety.
Tribbey said Superior Water Light & Power arrived within ten minutes and secured the gas line.
According to fire officials, a part of the building collapsed and severed the gas meter feeding the building.
The public is being asked to avoid the area to allow personnel to work on the the problem.
No injuries have been reported at this time. The building is now being evaluated by a structural engineer to determine if it can be reoccupied.
