Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans rally in Superior

The Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans held a rally in Superior to voice their concerns on cuts to Social Security. Several residents who rely on the entitlements held signs showing their support to expand Social Security.

Ross M. Winklbauer Sr., the President of the Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans said there’s legislative efforts to reduce recipients’ benefits.

“This is what the people paid into. I paid into Social Security for 51 years before I retired,” Winklabuer Sr. said. “It’s my money. It’s their money, and to give somebody a chance to take that money away from us is crazy.”

Winklbauer Sr. said when people think of folks who rely on Social Security they think of senior citizens. Although he said people of various ages and abilities rely on Social Security benefits.

“We have a young man here today too, who’s collecting Social Security, because he’s got a disability. He’s living with his mom, and without Social Security, where would that young man be? Who would be taking care of him? His mom is a senior citizen. So without Social Security, who knows what his future would be? It’s scary.”
