How to find your voice as a writer
Creativity Coach Molly Ovenden believes that the voice is the physical representation is the soul and what we do with it matters. Her focus is on how you find it as a writer. “Just start writing,” she tells The Lift.
“Everyone has a voice and so often there are times- maybe you can think of one from childhood- where someone interrupted you or you weren’t heard. So another way that we can use our voice is to actually listen.”
Molly says to listen to people who are different from us- especially those are different ethnicities, races, or folks who are sometimes under representative. “By listening to others we can see what settles in and wear our voice is,” Molly says.
You can start finding your own voice by practicing, “You can start actually allowing yourself to be heard, speaking out loud.” Maybe even reading your work out loud to a friend.
