Jess Bradley has a packed schedule as the social worker at Piedmont Elementary, meeting with students all day long.

“I just love all the kids and families and the staff that work here,” she shared.

Now she’s added chemo to her day, as she fights Stage 3 breast cancer.

She’s only 33, and had no family history of the disease.

Bradley noticed something was wrong after finishing breast feeding her second daughter.

“I had some different issues, and was in and out of the doctor’s office. They suggested I get a mammogram. Waiting for those results and having the doctor call me and say I had cancer was shocking to our whole family,” she recalled.

That was about a month ago. Her treatment plan includes chemotherapy for 20 weeks, a double mastectomy, radiation, and hormone therapy.

A long road ahead, but she has a good support system. “My husband, and family and friends, and a supportive work environment, has really helped.”

Students have also been writing her letters, cheering her on.

Her advice to others is to advocate for your health. “I knew something wasn’t right. Keep asking for help.”
