Northland’s first cat cafe sets opening date

The Northland’s first ever cat cafe, The Wired Whisker, will open to the public Friday, May 31.

It’s going to operate like a regular cafe but with an adoption aspect. Guests can make reservations for the Exclusive Cat Lounging room now. Owner Misha Smith says there will be between 10-15 adoptable rescue cats from Animal Allies.

Wired Whisker will call East Superior St. in the Endion neighborhood home.

“Market research, everything says that these people are animal lovers,” Smith told The Lift that Duluth needs a cat cafe. “We’re ready for it.”

Smith plans to have extended hours into the evening and wine and beer offerings.

The business is also set to collaborate with the Positively Third Street Bakery and local food trucks to bring delicious eats.

Lounging sessions are for those ages 8 and up. There is 1 to 2 adult-to-child safety ratio in place for the cats.

Visiting the cafe is free and offers a good view of the cat lounging room.

You are not allowed to bring your own cats from home. In an Instagram post, the cafe wrote, “The cats residing in our cat lounge have been carefully selected based on their personalities to ensure that they will enjoy and thrive in a more social environment. Our cat lounge also features a decompression room where the cats start off as they acclimate to the cat lounge. The decompression room also serves as a place for the cats to retreat if feeling overstimulated.”
