Officials with the Landing Resort in Hayward, Wisconsin helped organize an effort to move a bog on June 4 that had been an obstruction on Chippewa Flowage.

“We’re opening this up from east to west so that the resorts on the east side or the west side can fish either side and not worry about coming under the bridge, which is the bypass on this big lake,” explained Denny Reyes, a manager with the Landing Resort. “The people that are staying on the east or west side and fishing on the opposite sides, they need to get back under the bridge and so this bog has been blocking the bridge over the years. So, we’re just going to try to finally move it again.”

Reyes said he believed that the bog has been saturated for almost 20 to 30 years and probably weighs 200 tons. Around 50 boats were brought in to help push the bog into its new location.

“This is important to everybody because tourism is important. So, everybody who comes here to visit this beautiful piece of water and fish here, you have to be able to get from one side to the other.”
