The Cloquet boys golf team has been preparing for the state stage this week. They won the Section 7AA tournament as a team on May 30 to secure their fourth straight state berth. Also, junior Lance Sayler won the individual boys Section 7AA crown.

With that skill, and their experience of six state returners, the Lumberjacks are ready for the big links.

“It’s really good learning from a few years ago. It was definitely a pressure moment, definitely a lot different than any other tournaments I’ve played. But having that momentum going in, and then having the experience on winning sections to go into state, that definitely helps a lot,” Sayler said.

“At this point their games are pretty much where they need to be, so it’s just kind of fine tuning. Then it kind of depends on the course,” head coach Aaron Young said. “We’ve played The Quarry quite a bit this year, which is more of a position course where it’s not just a grip-it and rip-it on up a tee. So that helps a lot, and the Ridges is kind of that way too.”

This past Wednesday Cloquet was able to get a practice in at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, which is the Class AA state tournament course.

They first tee off Tuesday, June 11 with action concluding June 12. For the state tournament hub, Click Here.
