Ski Hill Cabins embrace Scandinavian culture on the North Shore

How about a private sauna in your cabin and a large room for quality family time? What a relaxing experience.

Four new Scandinavian-inspired cabins are open at the base of Lutsen Mountains.

Patrick Kindler and McCabe Plaas bought the land and built each cabin with its own private sauna.

“We’re nestled right behind the mountain in the boreal forest,” Plaas said.

They put an emphasis on a large gathering space and floor-to-ceiling windows to really take in the surroundings. The cabins can sleep 8-10 people in two bedrooms and a loft.

Carl Gauley, the architect, recently received the Residential Emerging Architect Award for 2024.

The private saunas will be a draw too.

“We definitely wanted to incorporate sauna culture with our build here,” Plaas said. “We think that it’s very part of the culture up here and something that we have done growing up as well.”

The property also connects to hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing trails.

Rates for the Ski Hill Cabins and Saunas run between $300-700 per night.
