Esko baseball gets one step closer to defending Class AA title with quarterfinal win

On Thursday the Esko baseball team earned a state quarterfinal win over Montevideo to get one step closer to defending their Class AA title.

No. 1 Esko held off Montevideo 3-2 in their Class AA quarterfinal held at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud. Esko scored all three of their runs right away in the first inning. Montevideo wouldn’t respond until the fourth when Benjamin Gunlogson scored two runs to come within one. Esko’s defense held strong to propel them into their second straight state semifinal.

Esko’s Bobby Thornton tallied one run, one hit and one RBI, and Bryce Hipp had one hit and one RBI. Finn Furcht led the charge from the mound throwing eight strikeouts over seven innings pitched for Esko.
