Top seeded Cherry baseball falls in Class A semifinal

On Friday, the top-seeded Cherry baseball team fell to No. 4 Springfield 4-2 in the Class A state semifinals at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.

After putting up six runs in their quarterfinal Thursday against Lac Qui Parle Valley, the Tigers only mustered up two runs Friday. One coming in the bottom of the 2nd inning and the other in the bottom of the 6th.

With the game tied at 1-1 after the third, Springfield put up three runs in the top of the 5th. That’s eventually all they would need to secure the 4-2 win.

Cherry then played Sacred Heart for third place, but fell 5-3. The Tigers complete the 2024 Class A state tournament in fourth place with a 21-5 overall record. This marked just their third-ever state tournament appearance, last going in 2008 and 1997.
