The annual Special Olympics Torch Run returns to Duluth

The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics took place on Monday at 11am at the Priley Circle Area at City Hall.

“So, it’s a fundraiser. For Special Olympics Minnesota. It partners up with law enforcement across the state to bring a torch from different parts of the state down to the cities where the summer Special Olympics games will be held this weekend,” said Jeremy O’Connor, police officer of the Duluth Police Department.

The “Flame of Hope” was paraded around the city by participants of the Special Olympics and local law enforcement. The event aims to increase awareness and help raise funds for the Special Olympics of Minnesota.

The Duluth event began Monday morning at Brighton Beach where participants biked the torch to City Hall, then the torch was lit and run to Spirit Mountain.

The torch was then passed to the Carleton County Police Department, who conducted their own run.
