Lea Zmurko: The calm before the next set of storms
With the Northland still on the mend from the flooding and heavy rainfall events earlier this week the risks and threats for flooding continue. The water levels for smaller creeks and streams are starting to lower, but larger rivers and major streams are seeing a rise in both water levels and currents. The potential for more flooding remains even with many roadways already washed out and multiple communities effected from the water damage.
Today the region will have some relief from precipitation. High pressure will stay over head for the afternoon and slowly move east overnight. Temperatures will remain in the mid-60s for those along the waterfront, further inland temperatures will make their way into the low 70s. Temperatures well trend lower with breezy conditions as we head into the next few days.
Wet weather is to be expected for the upcoming weekend bringing heavy rainfall into the Brainard Lakes region and into northwest Wisconsin. The start of these showers will be arriving overnight and into the early hours of Friday morning. Then, more rounds of rain will trek through Friday afternoon and evening lasting into Saturday morning.
Sunshine and warmer weather will greet us for the start of the next work week with temperatures itching their way into the 80s. A ridge will move through bringing in a well needed dry stretch for the Northland.
