Lea Zmurko: Summertime blues as rain continues
Rain and clouds continue for the start of the weekend. Most of the showers and thunderstorms today will be localized over northwestern Wisconsin today. But the rest of the Northland can be expecting some showers to pass throughout the weekend.
The threat for heavy rainfall remains for tonight and into Saturday morning. It is continuing to shift southward but will graze by areas along the north shore and into northwestern Wisconsin in the early morning hours. Another 1-2” of rainfall can be expected over the course of the weekend putting areas in Northern Wisconsin in an area of slight risk for excessive rainfall.
Overall, there is a low and marginal risk for severe storms this weekend as instability for the system weakens. This is all associated with a stalled front that will slowly push its way east bringing most of the heavy rain south of the Northland today.
It will be cool and breezy tomorrow as winds will be strong off Lake Superior. Temperatures will stay close to 60 degrees for the start of the weekend and then start a slow climb upwards.
Sunshine will return for the start of next week. Temperatures will trend in the upper 70s, few late evening showers as daytime heating increases later in the week.
