Duluth Police respond to shooting incident Friday morning, two arrested
Update: The Duluth Police Department reports that an 18-year-old Duluth resident and a 16-year-old juvenile have been arrested and are being brought to the St. Louis County Jail pending charges of Aid and Abet Drive by Shooting and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
Original story: Duluth Police say so far no injuries are reported after they responded to a shooting incident in the early hours of Friday morning.
It happened in the area of North 41st Avenue West and West 5th Street at around 7:00 a.m.
According to DPD, the witnesses involved observed parties enter a house in the area. A short time later, they exited and were detained by officers without incident. The involved parties are believed to be known to each other.
“Too often firearms in the hands of criminals are involved in incidents that turn violent. This shooting is a perfect example of that,” said Chief Mike Ceynowa. “We want to ensure that members of the Duluth community stay safe in our neighborhoods and we will do all we can to ensure the wellbeing of all who live, work, and play here.”
There is no threat to the public at this time, and remains an active and ongoing investigation.
“Gun violence of any kind is unacceptable in this community,” said Mayor Roger Reinert. “Western Duluth is family-friendly, safe, and neighborly. This incident in no way reflects the values of Western Duluth, nor is typical of Western Duluth. Our law enforcement professionals will use all the means they have at their disposal to ensure our community is safe.”
