New changes for Medicare means scammers are targeting beneficiaries
There are changes coming for Medicare recipients, when the enrollment begins again.
And scammers are reportedly taking advantage of that.
Celeste Plunkett and Dan Conrad are licensed life and health insurance agents for Mediqwest, which specializes in Medicare.
Their clients are letting them know they are getting calls from people claiming their rates are going to go up, and they need to switch plans.
Plunkett added, “No one from Medicare will ever call you, unless you call them first. You should not give out any information over the phone. If you do, make sure you let your agent know.”
Conrad said that along with other agents trying to get you to switch plans, there are also those out there who are working on identity theft.
“It’s becoming more prevalent every day,” he said.
Mediqwest will be doing meetings this fall ahead of the enrollment period, to explain the changes ahead.
