Blasting for rock removal on the Sixth Avenue E extension project begins
Construction crews began rock removal Tuesday, June 25 on the Sixth Avenue extension project. The process will involve twice daily blasting between East First Street and East Second Street in Duluth.
City officials say the blasts will take approximately two weeks, Monday through Friday, at noon and 4:00 p.m. Those around the vicinity can expect airhorn warnings five minutes before and one minute before the detonation. Another airhorn will sound after crews give the all-clear signal.
Access to the site will be restricted during the scheduled blasts. The blast zones will also be covered with netting to prevent flying rock.
City officials are monitoring the areas to ensure that vibration and noise levels are kept within safe limits.
