Runners and walkers get ready, Hibbing is bringing back the First Avenue Mile

Hibbing brings back First Avenue Mile after 25 year break

Get ready for the First Avenue Mile, which is returning to Hibbing after 25 years.

Hibbing is relaunching the First Avenue Mile after a 25 year hiatus.

It’s coming up on Saturday the 13th, in conjunction with the Chamber’s Jubilee events.

There are three different divisions for all skill levels.

“We love how it’s accessible for everyone. And there’s plenty of memories people have shared, how they won it as a kid. Or their dad organized it. We’re looking forward to people making new memories, with some hometown Hibbing pride,” shared Heather Matvey, Recreation Programmer for Hibbing Parks and Rec.

She and another race coordinate, James Plese, are also track/cross country coaches.

Plese said, “We just had our cross country kids run it this morning. We are really excited to bring this back, and fill the void after the 5K went away.”

Mayor Pete Hyduke said it’s a great way for the city to promote health and wellness, both mental and physical. “It brings the community together,” he shared.
