Lea Zmurko: The Northland is warming up this week

July 8: A few afternoon showers

Starting the week bright with mostly sunny conditions. A quick round of showers in the early evening will clear out for a cool evening.

Widespread fog lingers in the early morning. This will burn off quickly as the sun rises, but could cause some issues as visibility remains low from the Brainerd Lakes region northward to International Falls and then over along the South Shore.

We will see a few more rounds of passing showers across the Northland from this afternoon and into Wednesday evening. Areas can expect brief periods of downpours, but no severe weather or heavy rain is expected. As daytime heating will be on the rise, these rain events will dissipate by the evening hours each day.

The Northland will begin to dry out on Wednesday and sunny conditions will persist into the upcoming weekend. A consistent increase in temperatures will bring conditions to above normal and elevate heat risks. There will be widespread temperatures in the mid to high 80s for some.

This daytime heating puts much of the region in a risk of 2 out of 4 and especially brings risk to individuals sensitive to heat, without effective cooling, or adequate hydration.
