Justin Liles: Light Wildfire Smoke & More Heat
There are two main concerns regarding the weather this week. The first is increasing likelihood some parts of the Northland will see some sort of Heat Advisory by the end of the week. The temperatures will continue to climb this week, especially by the end of the week. Hot weather will impact all of us Friday-Monday. As many parts of the Northland get closer to 90°F or higher and dew points are in the 70’s, heat indices (the feels like temperature) this weekend will likely climb to near 100°F or more. Especially Saturday and Sunday.
This type of heat if not kept in check by you, can become dangerous. Do not leave kids your pets in cars! Keep an eye on any elderly not able to cool down. Watch the amount of time kids spend in the sun. Stay hydrated and stay cool. The last thing we need is for someone to get hurt do to heat. You could also head to the beach or body of water to stay cool.
The second concern through mid-week is going to be wildfire smoke coming in from Canada. We’re likely going to be looking at most this smoke create hazy conditions and staying elevated in the atmosphere. We may smell it from time to time but most of it won’t make it down to the surface. However, those who run a health risk will be dealing with moderate conditions.
Not much rain is expected although there is a chance tomorrow across the Iron Range and Arrowhead beginning around noon and lasting through the afternoon. These will be scattered thunderstorms.
