DEADLINE – Screenwriting Contest Closing Soon

For those in our community who enjoy screenwriting, keep an eye out for a deadline coming up! As a screenwriters’ group, Creative Coffee, is sponsoring a script contest, “Unfinished Works”

The Northland is gearing up for another first: “Unfinished Work: A Screenwriting Contest.” The event will present some of the Northland’s finest screenwriters showing off their finest work. The event lasts from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Teatro Zuccone Theater. Come for an hour or come for the day. Admission is free!

For Screenwriters there is still time to enter! Screenwriters are invited to submit new and experimental scripts in all genres for a short table reading. A panel of three judges will read all the of the entries to choose the scripts read at the event in August. To be eligible, script segments must be no longer than 10 minutes and must use between 2-4 readers. Deadline for Submissions is Monday, July 15, 2024

One of the judges Francis Heid, a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zeitgeist Art Center, shared a glimpse into what the event will entail.

“In addition to the judge chosen winner, we will also have an audience winner. Actually, there’ll be three of them, and then later that evening we’ll have a dinner for them and have a chance to celebrate them.”

Cheryl Reitan, one of the founders of Creative Coffee, shared plans for the future as they look to continue the event at the Catalyst Content Festival in the Fall.

“Well, we are in conversation with the new Catalyst directors for the Catalyst competition in fall. And based on how well this goes, and we really think it’s going to go well, they are looking to add it to their offerings for fall. It’s not for sure, but it’s highly likely.”

FOR ENTRIES –

  • A separate page containing: Name, address, email, and phone number
  • A 30-word description per scriptwriter for the printed program.
  • A script segment using standard script format (10 page max). Names or other identifying information will lead to disqualification.
  • Entries must be postmarked on or before Monday. July 15, 2024.
